The DB5 became a wildly known, culturally iconic car because of the way that it was driven and the special affects seen in the Ian Fleming James Bond movies. It was first introduced in the 1964 film Goldfinger. Ian Fleming wrote that Bond drove a DB mark III but John Stears (the special effects expert) convinced Aston Martin to make the newest prototype available for use. 4 different DB5’s were used for the movie. 2 for the promotion and 2 for the actual film. The specialty versions of the vehicle were equipped with specialty features. They feature pop-out barrel guns coming out of the front lights, a smoke screen system, a bullet shield in the rear window, and a three way revolving plate changer. The car became intertwined with the Bond series and was used in the subsequent movies.
