In August 2018, the world’s most elite automotive enthusiasts and luxury connoisseurs gathered at the renowned Château Saint-Martin on the French Riviera, not just for another gala, but for an unforgettable moment in automotive history. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the Mediterranean Sea, Bugatti unveiled its latest creation at the time: the Divo. The event was nothing short of spectacular, with an air of exclusivity that only Bugatti can deliver. Attended by billionaires, celebrities, and automotive legends, the unveiling was one of the most high-profile events of the year. Major industry figures, including Bugatti’s CEO Stephan Winkelmann and Christian von Koenigsegg, founder of Koenigsegg Automotive, were among those in attendance. Even the likes of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, both of whom are known for their luxury car collections, could be spotted in the crowd. Everyone seemed eager to witness the birth of a new icon. This event was meant to showcase Bugatti’s unrivaled craftsmanship and vision for the future of hypercars. Bugatti selected existing Chiron owners through private, invitation-only presentations, and all 40 Divo units were reserved within weeks, with each buyer undergoing a bespoke, highly involved customization process at Molsheim (a small town in France and the headquarters of Bugatti).

The Bugatti Divo

Named after the legendary French racing driver Albert Divo, who dominated the 1920s in Bugatti’s race cars, the Divo is a tribute to the brand’s racing heritage. Albert Divo won two consecutive Targa Florio races in 1928 and 1929 driving a Bugatti Type 35. This victory cemented his legacy as one of the greatest drivers in motorsport history. Bugatti has pride when it comes to things like legacy, performance and racing heritage and the decision to name this hypercar after him is a testament to that. The Divo pays homage to a man whose passion and excellence are now immortalized in a car that stands at the pinnacle of automotive engineering.

The Bugatti Divo

The Divo’s performance specifications are as outrageous as its price tag. With a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine, the car generates a jaw-dropping 1,479 horsepower. This incredible power pushes the Divo from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds. The top speed, while electronically limited to 236 mph, is designed for optimal track performance rather than mere top-end speed. The Divo’s lightened body of around 4,400 pounds, ensures it handles curves and tight corners with exceptional agility, thanks to its aerodynamics and advanced suspension system. Since its release, Bugatti has remained true to its commitment to innovation and precision. The Divo is a refined version of the Chiron, focused more on handling, cornering, and track-ready performance. Bugatti's engineers have adjusted the car’s aerodynamics, made tweaks to its suspension, and added unique design elements to make the Divo an even more agile, faster, and more exclusive car.

The Bugatti Divo

When it was released, the Divo carried a price tag of $5.8 million, instantly making it one of the most expensive cars in the world. Today, however, its value has only risen as Bugatti has limited production to just 40 units, each one hand-crafted to meet the needs of the world’s elite. As of 2025, a used Divo can fetch prices upwards of $7 million, if one can even find it for sale. The rarity of the Divo, combined with its unmatched performance, ensures that the car will only become more coveted over time. Culturally, the Bugatti Divo is not just a car; it's a symbol of wealth, success, and ambition. It’s a status symbol worn like a badge of honor, seen on the streets of Monaco, Beverly Hills, and Dubai—places where the rich and powerful converge. It’s also made appearances in films and music videos, often associated with extreme luxury and performance.
